the day i will cherish forever…

This was what I walked into on Saturday afternoon, thinking it was just a casual lunch at my auntys! Oh My God– was my first reaction. I was definitely surprised and shocked but absolutely blown away! Only God knows how I felt inside, I was left speechless…even until today as I type this. Alhamdulillah I am so grateful to Allah, having bless me with such a beautiful sister (my one and only sister) and amazing relatives and friends who worked tremendously hard making this garden tea party a huge success.

As I walked in, I wasn’t quite sure what this party was for lol! It took me a good few seconds to sink in, and realise what is it that we are celebrating? ‘is this my almost there party? or a baby shower? Don’t think it would be a baby shower since I’m expecting my 3rd, so I’ll take the former :)

Very cute vintage party props, I cant believe my sister who has 1 year old twin boys managed to organise all this for me, Mashallah! Of course with lots of help from relatives and friends-you know who you are and I am forever grateful to have you all in my life :)

Its ‘Spring’ season here in Melbourne and the table setting was reflecting just that- spring colours! I absolutely love the table decor setting. Its so pastelly cute and girly. My Auntys house was the perfect location, whoever thought of it was a genius! Thanks Aunty Nola for being the words bestest host!

And of course, my talented and amazing friend Eda from Plaited Heart made this fondant cake. Did I mention she is super amazing? Mashallah, everyone was not only impressed by the look of this cake but also tasted delicious, soft and moist :)

This is absolutely brilliant! There were a few flavours of tea in here and the caption was “Find your Flavour”. I wonder how long it took to cut, and paste them onto each tea bag. Again, I’m just so grateful for everyones help in putting this party together :)

Last but not least, we all had lots of fun taking silly photos at the photo booth. I wont be uploading any photos, its just too embarassing lol. Alhamdulillah I enjoyed heaps myself despite my condition, and it was really good to get together and see familiar faces and of course, being kid free (thank you hubby for babysitting!).I can never repay those who have sacrificed their time and love into this, but you guys will be in my prayers. Thank you to everyone who helped, who came and to those who wanted but couldn’t make it, I love you all for the sake of Allah!

chocolate, kit kat & M&M cake!

Oh-do I feel like a child again!

Over the weekend, my inlaws threw a surprise farewell party to my Sister in Laws daughter-who is only 8-and going to Dubai! I was so excited to be given the task to make a Kit Kat cake as I’ve always wanted to make something like that but did not want it to make it for no reason. I have to admit, it was so hard resisting myself from eating the kit kats and M&Ms whilst I was constructing the cake, I felt like a kid!

Of course, this chocolate cake recipe never fails me. I have used it many times, my sister uses it many times…in fact its the only chocolate cake recipe we use! It was given to us by our lovely Aunt Nola (love her to bits Mashallah!) and it has always impressed many consumers :)

I apologize that I do not have a photo of the cake cut so you can see what its like on the inside. It was gone by the time I even had a chance to take a photo!

Chocolate cake recipe adapted from my Aunt Nola
Serves: 12
Prep time: 30 mins
Bake time: 1 hour
Assembly time: 20 mins

Ingredients for chocolate cake

2 cups plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate soda
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup cocoa powder

1 tsp salt
1 cup milk
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup hot coffee (made from 1 tsp coffee)

Method for chocolate cake

1. Preheat oven to 170°c.
2. Line the base and sides of a 20cm diameter springfoam tin with baking paper.
3. Sift all the dry ingredients into a large bowl.
4. Pour all the wet ingredients into another large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until combined.
5. Then gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet bowl. Fold until well combined.
6. Pour batter into the cake tin and bake for 50-60 minutes until a skewer inserted comes out clean.

Ingredients for vanilla buttercream
Adapted from my own memory and taste!

3 cups icing sugar (powdered sugar)
2 tsp vanilla essence
3 tbsp milk
1 tbsp cream

Method for vanilla buttercream

1. Using a stand mixer, whisk the butter and sugar until well combined and smooth.
2. Gradually add in vanilla essence, milk and cream.

Freebie #3 – Printable DIY Eid Bunting Flags

Our third week FREE DIY Printable is for the home!
*You may download this printable at the end of post*

Freebie #1 – Printable DIY Eid Bunting Flags

What is a celebration without a welcome banner right? So for week #3, we have a bunting flag template that you can just simply print, cut and decorate!
Materials needed for this project:
1. This printable template
2. A4/8×12” White paper (200gsm/110 lb +)
3. Ruler
4. Cutter and scissors
5. Hole punch
6. Ribbon or string
Cut the flag template using a cutter/scissors and ruler.
Don’t be lazy like me and cut all 6 pages together in one go! Thank God I got them all right- be sure to align the pages properly if you’re using this lazy method!
Use a hole puncher to make 2 holes on each flag.
Again, the lazy me…punching all the holes together. Woohoo I got it right the first go! (if you stuff up, you start again from scratch!)

Arrange them to make “EID MUBARAK”.

Cut your string to the desired length (measure where you want to hang them first). Thread the string/ribbon through. The first letter, you need to put the string from the top (see pic above).

And then just add all the letters, making sure the string/ribbon is behind the flag so you cant see it.

And now decorate! I chose to hang them at my old unused fireplace as mantel piece decoration. Absolutely love it! And the best part is, the colors go extremely well with my living room decor!
